Therapy for Anxiety

in Atlanta, Georgia

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural response to perceived threat. It is a state of unease or nervousness, usually tied to an anticipated unwanted event. Everyone experiences anxiety at times, and it can be useful. For example, a bit of anxiety before an exam or presentation can motivate you to prepare and do your best. In that way, anxiety acts as a messenger urging you toward action.

For some people, though, anxiety becomes overwhelming. Constant worry about the future or rumination about the past can create fear, paralysis, self-doubt, and a loss of confidence. When anxiety is intense or chronic, it commonly shows up as:

  • Racing or repetitive thoughts and rumination

  • Physical restlessness or tension

  • Sleep problems

  • Irritability

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Avoidance of people, places, or activities that feel triggering

For many people, avoiding the things we feel anxious about might seem like the only option. Avoiding what makes you anxious may provide short-term relief but often shrinks your world and interferes with meaningful goals and relationships.

You don’t have to live that way. There is help, and you don’t have to suffer alone. Therapy can help you face fears and reduce worry so you can stop overthinking and start engaging with the things that matter to you. You can reclaim confidence and move toward your goals.
